In November of 2004, I released a self-titled jazz album. Regular radio stations would not play my album unless it was charted and it couldn't get charted unless it was played...a catch 22. I turned to the internet to market my CD to get airplay. CC Chapman sent me information about podcasting and I was unsure about downloading my songs but after looking at the recommendation of the Lascivious Biddies and the success they were having, I felt it was worth the gamble. I downloaded 2 of my songs to the PMN and received airplay and my website went wild with hits quadrupling over a week period and sold several CD's on CDBaby. I was ecstatic.... but brought down when I learned that my tunes were covers and not podsafe and were not legal for podcasters to play without ASCAP/BMI license. I promptly asked that they be removed from the PMN. Adam Curry had really liked my talent and encouraged me to write original songs that would be podsafe. I sat down and wrote Drifting and got with my arranger and put it on the podsafe music network. I was a little nervous putting my creativity out to be heard but the podcasters played it, had good things to say about it and I was very happy.
Thank you CC for introducing me to podcasting. Thank you Adam for playing my music first and encouraging me to write my own music. Thank you Eban for your love and support and making me Queen of the Royal Court and for being such a good friend. Thank you to Steve Webb, Steve and Dawn, Aaron Bates, Corey James, Chris Doelle, Scott Slone, Michael Moss, Ed Roberts, Ed Ovett, Dave Jackson, Keith Jaxon, Steve Holmes, Wei-Yen, StampPodRob, Maurice Zondag, Jack Elias, dkgemini, Smithy, Paul Nichols, Lance Heath, Mrs. B, Paul and Lynn, Kenny Little, and many others.. Thank you also to Slau for letting me be a part of the PodSafe for Peace song. This is family!! I am so honored to be a part of the podcast family and this podshow plus launch. Podcasting is the technology phenomena of the 21st century.
